The Mermaid and the Drunks |
Produced for: The British Broadcasting Corporation
Paola and her family fled Chile's violent political strife in 1979 for what they assumed would be the comfort and security of
Scotland. What they found was a damp dark country town full of hostile, unwelcoming locals. Even the helpful schoolteachers
couldn't shield Paola from her classmates hurtful taunts. Now an adult, Paola returns to Scotland to reflect on her childhood
there and how it still affects her.
