Until the early sixties, hundreds of unmarried pregnant women were signed into Ireland's Magdalen Laundry by their families. Run by the Sisters of Mercy, the women of the laundry endured backbreaking work and grim living conditions, on top of the shame of an out-of-wedlock pregnancy. In this program, women who lived at the Magdalen Laundry and residents of the town of Galway, where the laundry was located, speak of the mournful legacy the laundry has left.
